Core Course Tracker Alberta: Your NCAA Eligibility Made Simple

If you're a high school student-athlete in Alberta aiming to compete in the NCAA, using a core course tracker is essential. The NCAA only counts specific high school courses toward eligibility, and our Core Course Tracker Alberta helps you stay organized by showing you which courses are approved, tracking your GPA, and keeping your progress clear from Grade 9 to 12.

What Are the NCAA Core Courses for Alberta?

The NCAA requires 16 core courses in English, math, science, social science, and additional approved subjects. Alberta’s education system has its own course names, so it’s important to know exactly which Alberta courses count.

Our Alberta-specific tracker is built using the official NCAA International Guide for Canada

(Alberta section) and organizes all eligible courses into:

  • English/Native Language (e.g. English 10-1, 20-1, 30-1)

  • Math (e.g. Math 10C, Math 30-1)

  • Science (e.g. Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Science 10)

  • Social Science (e.g. Social Studies 30-1)

  • Additional Approved Courses (e.g. French 30, Physics 30)

The NCAA does not accept locally developed, work-experience, or general/life skills courses for eligibility.

How Our Alberta Core Course Tracker Works

Our tracker is a simple Google Sheet you can access from any device. You:

  1. Select your course from a dropdown menu (Alberta-approved titles only)

  2. Mark whether the course is in progress or complete

  3. Enter your final grade (letter or percent)

  4. See your calculated NCAA GPA automatically

This tracker removes the guesswork and it’s built just for Alberta high school athletes.

Why Alberta Athletes Need a Core Course Tracker

Many Canadian athletes assume all their courses count toward NCAA eligibility. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. If you’re not tracking approved courses from Grade 9 onward, you risk graduating without meeting the requirements.

This tool:

  • Keeps your NCAA core GPA visible at all times

  • Helps you plan future courses with your guidance counselor

  • Saves time when applying to U.S. schools or the NCAA Eligibility Center

It’s the kind of tool we wish we had earlier in our own journey.

Personal Story: Why We Built This for You

When my own son started his NCAA journey from Canada, we had no idea some of his high school courses wouldn’t count. We scrambled to make adjustments in Grade 12 to meet eligibility. That stress led me to create Collegiate Goals and this province-by-province tracker is what I wish existed when we started. Alberta athletes deserve a clear, accurate roadmap.
